Wisconsin Eau Claire enters its national title defense as the top seed in the East Region, boasting a trio of All-Americans in Cerys Ridd, Khloee Chamberlain and Cerys Ridd. If the Blugolds come good Sunday, they’ll claim their fourth national title in three years between 15s and 7s.
Opposite Eau Claire as the top seed in the West is Coast Guard, semifinalists from fall 15s. The Bears fell in the quarterfinals of this tournament last spring, but enjoyed a strong spring campaign, thanks in large part to All-American Avis Akers.
Players to Watch
Last year’s runner-up, Roger WIlliams, is paced by All-American Danielle Vogt. The Hawks were CRC champions in 2021 and 2022, but knocked off by Eau Claire in the final. If they tangle again this year, it will be in the semifinals.
Syracuse has emerged as a dark horse largely because of the play of All-American center Oluwasayo Kumapayi. If she gets loose, the Orange could be dangerous.
Colorado Mesa is led by All-American Chloe Coop. Her speed, elusiveness and ball skills will make the Mavericks a threat.
The same could be said for Marist’s Syd Weiss, setting up an exciting first-round match-up between the two in the East Region. The winner is rewarded with a potential quarterfinal pairing with favorite Eau Claire.
Cinderella Candidate
Towson was 2-2 at the CRC last year, both of their losses coming by a single try. If the hometown Tigers are to improve on that promising performance, All-American speedster Kelly Greenleaf will likely play a big role.
