Chanticleers, Bobcats, Mavericks, Seahawks in the Hunt in DII

Fridays’ theme of upsets continued in Men’s Division II, as the No. 1 seeds in both regions fell in the quarterfinals. Saturday’s semifinal matchups will feature No. 2 seed Coastal Carolina against four-seed Montana State in the East Region at 12:35 p.m. No. 4 UNC-Wilmington takes on three-seed Colorado Mesa in the West.

Montana State opened its day with an impressive 40-5 victory over Towson, who saw the Bobcats open up a 28-0 lead in the opening half. In their quarterfinal, the Bobcats erased an early 10-0 deficit against Indiana University of Pennsylvania, scoring the upset of the day.

Coastal Carolina opened its morning with a 45-0 drubbing of Coast Guard that saw Rory Naylor record a hat-trick. The Chanticleers wrapped up their afternoon with a 29-7 victoy over Scranton.

In the West region, fourth-seeded UNC-Wilmington opened its day with a 25-10 victory over Miami (OH), before earning a 24-5 win over Northwestern. They will face off against Colorado Mesa who shut out Georgetown 28-0 in the first round before upending second seed Norwich 21-14 in the quarterfinals. 

After one day of competition, Jackie Martinez of Colorado Mesa and Naylor of Coastal Carolina lead the division with 29 total points. Lane Travis of Tennessee Tech leads the bracket with five tries through three games.
