Women’s DII Recap

In the Women’s DII bracket Saturday, the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Blugolds defeated Syracuse and Grand Valley State by narrow margins. As the reigning CRC and 15s National Champions, the Blugolds have a lot to prove heading into tomorrow afternoon’s semifinal against Temple (31-7 over Fairfield, 17-7 over Coast Guard). Cerys Ridd, one of UWEC’s three All-American players, ended day one on the tournament leaderboard for conversions.

The opposite side of tomorrow’s bracket houses the semifinal matchup of Roger Williams and Columbia. Roger William’s Natalia Comiskey was Division II’s top scorer for Saturday, with 27 points (five tries and one conversion). Combined with the defensive power of seniors Emma Wright and Sarah Gray, the Hawks are working to make Columbia’s contention for the title anything but easy.

Making all of their first appearances at the CRC this year, Syracuse and Coast Guard find themselves up for consolation Plate and Bowl titles after day one. Fairfield, a team also making its first appearance on the pitch in this tournament, will play for 13th. The South Florida Bulls garnered underdog performance predictions leading up to this weekend, and will face the Colorado School of Mines to for the right to play for the Shield.

Camille Wilt (Syracuse), Sophia Bono (Roger Williams), Georgia Johnson, and Yoon Kim (Columbia) sit on top of the leaderboard for points scored on day one. Sunday’s semis kick off at 12:20 p.m., and a champion will be crowned after a game starting at 4:13 p.m.
