SNU, A&M, UTSA Qualify From Lone Star

The Lone Star Conference Championship in Lubbock, TX was the lone qualifier over the holiday weekend, with Southern Nazarene taking the title and two more teams punching their tickets to the Collegiate Rugby Championship in other divisions in Texas A&M (Division I Club) and UT San Antonio (Division II).

SNU defeated Texas State, host Texas Tech and UTSA on the day. The Roadrunners’ lone loss was to the Crimson Storm, and they registered wins over North Texas and A&M. The Aggies scored a pair of big wins over the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns.

At the CRC, the Crimson Storm will be looking to improve on their second-round exit from last spring, having beaten Iowa in the opener before falling to Army in the quarterfinals. SNU is an increasingly talented squad, with All-American and Premier Rugby 7s pro Telesi Uhatafe among the top players in the country.

Texas A&M went 0-4 in Maryland last year, but in the Premier Cup. The Aggies will be more of a contender in Division I Club this go around. The Roadrunners were also at the CRC last spring, finishing 2-2 and in seventh place, with wins over Shippensburg and Wayne State.
