Clemson, Florida State Women, Wheeling Men Qualify for CRC

Clemson went undefeated to win the Florida Collegiate Conference 7s Saturday in Tallahassee, FL, defeating North Carolina in the final and qualifying for the Women’s Division I Club bracket of the Collegiate Rugby Championship. Third place Florida State, as the top finishing FCC team, also earns a bid to Maryland. The Tigers and Seminoles join Oregon, St. Bonaventure and Claremont Colleges, who had previously punched their tickets to the CRC. 

Wheeling repeated as champions of Terrapins 7s Saturday, winning the fourth of eight stops on the Men’s Premier Cup qualification series. The Cardinals defeated Kutztown, 14-7, in the final to join Iowa Central, Air Force and Babson in earning a CRC berth. In the semifinals, Kutztown downed the Bonnes, 24-12,and Wheeling shutout NDC, 22-0.       

Wheeling was perfect in Pool A, not conceding a point in wins over Clemson, Delaware and St. Mary’s (MD). Kutztown also went undefeated in claiming Pool D, blanking West Chester and Buffalo, before squeaking past Siena, 22-17. St. Bonaventure was unbeaten in Pool C, beating Frostburg State, Maryland and Fordham. And Notre Dame College was 3-0 in Pool B, notching wins over Mary Washington, Nazareth and James Madison.
