Boise State University hosted the first women’s Premier Cup qualifier on Saturday, April 2. Four teams competed, none of which had ever faced each other before this tournament. BSU went undefeated in pool play, beating Cal Maritime, Southern Utah University and Southern Oregon University to make it to the final. BSU faced off against SOU for a second time, but SOU flipped the script on the home team. SOU led 5-0 at half time, and sealed the deal with the go-ahead try, shutting out BSU 10-0 to clinch their spot in the Premier Cup.
The Great Lakes 7s tournament for the Division I Club Cup also took place on Saturday at Grand Valley State University. Darien Ripple, the head coach of GVSU, reflected on the day’s competition: “We had eight different teams there so it was really nice, everybody competing together.” GVSU dominated the tournament, shutting out their competition in every match. They won 53-0 against Central Michigan University, 39-0 against Calvin College and 30-0 against Ferris State University. GVSU ultimately beat Adrian College 36-7 in the final, making Adrian the first team to score on GVSU all day.
