Foxes Fight Their Way to DI Title

Claremont Colleges claimed the program’s first 7s national championship Sunday, defeating the CRC debutante Oregon Ducks, 17 7.  Alex Meecham led the Foxes in tries on the weekend, but senior Caroline Bullock was named the DI Club MVP after a remarkable defensive performance.

The dynamic duo of Audrey Tyler and JoAnna O’Neill helped lift Oregon to the final, with Chayse McCann chipping in a pair of tries to help topple reigning champion Clemson, 26-14. Kitty Fettell’s consistent support play was also paramount. A 24-27 loss to Ohio State in the third place match knocked the Tigers down to fourth.

UConn was knocked out of title contention by Ohio State in the second round, but rebounded with consecutive wins to claim the Plate, defeating Boise State 22-7 in the final to finish fifth.

North Carolina finished the tournament 3-1, claiming the Bowl, with a 31-10 defeat of reigning Small College 15s champion St. Bonaventure. The Tar Heels relied on a balanced attack, with seven players recording tries, and none more than two.

Florida State takes home hardware in its CRC debut. The Seminoles opened with a pair of heartbreaking losses, falling to Claremont by a single converted try and Florida State by two. Bri Alston led FSU with six tries, good for third in the division.
